It seems like it might work better for Dom's character. It's called "Unlimited Mana," and the way it works is that instead of getting Fatigue when casting a spell, each magic user has a 30 point energy limit and they keep a running total of the cost of all the spells they have cast that day. But when you reach the limit you can decide to cast more but then have to roll on a calamity table and the results get worse the more you go over you limit. Every day your total spell energy used is reduced by 8 until it gets back to 0. I thought this sounded like it might be more fun to use than the current system. Hopefully it will give Joel the ability to cast more spells than now. Check the rules out at On top of that I found some more rules about spell books! These cover the time it take to learn from someone else's spell book. So to learn Create Object (a 1 second spell) it will take 3 days of studying and costs one character point. But if you make a critical failure on a spell learned this way you have to spend 3 more days re-learning it. (Hmm... I think I need to find these again).
